Explore Highland and Hebridean Beaches

Visiting the Highlands and the Hebrides is about being outdoors. Throughout the Highlands and Islands there’s great walking, from pacing the sublime sandy beaches along the Road To The Isles to heading along Barra, Tiree or Harris. This gives you a great change to get out on the water, sea-kayaking is a great option on Barra, Skye and other islands. And bikes are easily taken on ferries – though high winds can make for tough pedalling at times.

The Silver Sands of Morar are a celebrated series of beautiful sandy beaches, which pepper the coastline from Arisaig to Morar. A stunning string of white sandy beaches, with spectacular views out to the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna, the Silver Sands of Morar are a spectacular destination. A popular place with walkers, the beaches are all accessible from the road and can be enjoyed individually or as a trail. The beaches incorporate the back of Keppoch and Camusdarach on the coastline.

This popular walk heads out from the end of the Rhu road to visit a secluded and sheltered sandy beach, with great views out to the islands along the way.

With a spectacular view to the jagged crest of Cuillin on the Isle of Skye, the rugged blue peaks of Rum and the steep sea cliff of Eigg, Camusdarach is breathtaking. With plenty of opportunities for swimming, rock pooling and walking, the beach is a great place to spend a day. Camusdarach is the beach featured in the film Local Hero and is a popular place on tours of film locations.
